Caption: I took this photo of Blackberry on November 1, 2020. Blackberry is quite shy so I kept my distance as to not make her feel uncomfortable. As I stood a distance from her I could see the steam flowing from her nose with each breath. She watched me closely as I photographed her from my mark.
At 8 years old Blackberry was rescued by Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary. She had already birthed many babies and had them taken away from her. When the farmer who had her decided to retired from farming he surrendered Blackberry to to the sanctuary because he did not want to send her to slaughter. Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary tried to convince the farmer to also surrender Blackberry's daughter and granddaughter, but their attempts were, unfortunately, unsuccessful. Blackberry is still a little shy, but she has come a long way and is loving her new life.
